AI in GhostChef

GhostChef uses AI models from OpenAI in the app, and Grok by xAI for our mailbox. This page explains what they are used for, what you notice of them and how you stay in control, in line with the transparency rules of the European AI Act.
What we use AI for
- Video to recipe: Whisper transcribes what is said, and a GPT model writes a recipe from that text and still frames. A frame from your video is never used as a recipe photo.
- Fridge scan: a GPT model recognises the food in your live photo.
- Checks: a moderation model and a GPT model check recipe text, usernames and photos. They look for hate, sexual content, violence or text in the image, whether a photo matches the recipe and whether it is an image from the internet.
What we do not do
No facial recognition, no emotion recognition, no chatbot pretending to be human and no AI profiles for advertising. We do not use your photos or videos for advertising.
Consent
For each type of action (video, recipe text, name, cook photo and fridge scan) we ask for your agreement first. The app remembers this on your device. You can withdraw it via Account → AI-toestemming intrekken; we will then ask again. If you refuse, that feature does not work, because we publish nothing without a check.
Human oversight
- A recipe made from a video is a suggestion. You check and edit it before you publish it.
- An automatic rejection only concerns that name, text or photo. If you think it is wrong, email us and a person will review it.
- Reports and account closures are always decided by a person.
AI can make mistakes
Quantities, temperatures, times and allergens may be wrong. Always check them. An AI recipe is not nutritional or medical advice.
Where the data goes
OpenAI Ireland Ltd. processes the data for us, together with OpenAI, L.L.C. in the US, under a data processing agreement with standard contractual clauses. OpenAI does not use it to train its models and keeps it for at most 30 days to detect abuse. We automatically delete videos and their frames after processing, also when it fails; we do not keep fridge photos. See the privacy policy.
Our mailbox: Grok reads along
Please note: an AI reads our email. Every email sent to app.ghostchef@outlook.com, including reports made in the app, is read and sorted by an AI assistant: Grok by xAI (US). Only include what is needed. Decisions are always made by a person. More information
Grok summarises and sorts emails so we find reports and requests faster. Grok decides nothing and does not reply on our behalf: replies and decisions come from a person.
Advertising
Ads run through Google AdMob, not through OpenAI. You change your choice via Account → Advertentievoorkeuren.
